Underdeveloped is not a word that I want to describe my journey with my Father. Sadly, many professing Christians today have been spiritually blinded by culture, bad teaching, religiosity, or some type of spiritual deception. I’m going to contrast the dry with the fruitful, the dead with the living, a lifeless spiritual concept with a living spiritual encounter with the Loving Father of Lights from Whom every good and perfect gift comes down.
A Lifeless Concept
Sunday morning comes and our spiritual concept kicks in that urges us to attend church. We dutifully arrive, smiling and greeting others week after week regardless of our condition emotionally or circumstantially. We pretend that “all is well with my soul” when others inquire. We sing songs about God, hear a message about God and His Greatness. We patiently wait for the final “Amen” that once again releases us to the parking lot that we may head back home unchanged, unchallenged, and underdeveloped spiritually. But hey, we have completed our weekly spiritual obligation.
A Living Encounter
Every morning when we wake up, brings us to an attitude of thankfulness to be alive and anticipation to hear terms of endearment from heaven and how we can share His love with someone on this new day. We grab a morning beverage, our Bible and a notepad (iPad) and find a quiet place to pour all of our focus on our loving Father. As we greet Him with our hearts open, regardless of our condition, be it broken or truly blessed, He comforts us with His presence and words of Hope and Encouragement for the day. We would love to stay in this posture the live long day but we must arise and attend to our roles and responsibilities. What we have gained through this time well spent is assurance, confidence, hope, and a peaceful heart.
New Life Choices
If you are stuck in a rut spiritually, there is hope. Below I have included some scriptural guidelines to help pull yourself out of the rut and set your feet back on solid ground. If we posture ourselves to encounter God, He will be to us so much more than just a concept.
James 4:8a “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you…”
I Thessalonians 5:16-18 “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
