To encounter God is to experience Him in a very personal way! I was reading through this passage the other day as these three things stood out as fresh revelation to me.
John 10:15 (NKJV)
As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. (read this over 5 times slowly)
1. The Father knows Jesus because of His omniscient nature.
2. The Son knows the Father because of His pursuing Him relationally.
3. Through these frequent and consistent encounters, Jesus heard from heaven at a young age and submitted to Love. He set His values and convictions based on relationship, and carried out His assignment exactly as it was given paying the full price for it!
It’s really not enough to only pursue God in prayer and fasting. These are spiritual disciplines for sure, but submission and obedience must be a lifestyle in order for us to know and fulfill our assignment. (See Jeremiah 29:11)
Sin which is disobedience, separates us from God. Therefore, obedience which is submission draws us near to His heart where we can hear His heart without distraction. We also through submission take within ourselves His values and convictions transforming our hearts into the likeness of His. (See Galatians 4:6)
disobedience ~ obedience
separates ~ draws to
What is it that I do that separates me, hindering an encounter?
What is it that I do that draws me into His presence?
What sins in my life do I need to confess to God and ask forgiveness for?
What ways do I walk in obedience to His Word?
2 Corinthians 6:17 (NKJV)
17 Therefore “Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.”
